Nikla & Maurizio — More than a wedding
Maurizio and I liked each other straight away. He is direct, serious and plain-spoken, and I recognised something of myself in that. We met twice before the wedding. At one of those meetings, a freshly printed photograph was enough to add something to their plans. Then came conversations about organising the day, the growing connection between Nikla and Jessica, and a wedding that called for both quiet and a party full of music.
01
We understood each other straight away
At one of our meetings, I showed Nikla and Maurizio the instant photo-printing service by making a print in front of them. They loved it and chose it for their wedding. As we discussed the day, they learned that Jessica is a wedding planner as well as a photographer and filmmaker. Drawing on our years of experience, we could help them with the organisation and recommend trusted suppliers. From there, we began speaking more often. Especially Nikla and Jessica.
02
Twenty minutes of quiet
On the wedding morning, Nikla’s home was full of people, with everything happening at once. It felt like a hair salon. Getting ready had become chaotic, and the atmosphere was increasingly stressful. I knew how much Maurizio wanted Nikla to enjoy the day calmly. I suggested she take about twenty minutes alone in her room, away from all the activity. There was no photograph to get out of it: she simply needed a little quiet.
03
Inside and outside the church
The ceremony took place in church. While I followed what was happening inside, Jessica helped coordinate people outside. Maurizio later thanked me for looking after Nikla’s peace of mind. Afterwards, there was an informal aperitif outside: drinks, bread and local salami. Time with their guests before heading to Villa Acquaroli.
04
No need to pretend
At Villa Acquaroli, we kept the couple portraits simple. Nikla and Maurizio were enjoying being together, and we followed their lead. Once they entered the first-floor reception room, the party started almost immediately. It felt like a DJ set, with music, dancing and guests joining in from the start.
05
A voice amid the music
Amid all that music, Maurizio had prepared something just for Nikla: a recorded voice message. It played through the speakers while he sat looking into her eyes. It was a different way of being together from the dancing a little earlier. The words were his, meant for her.
06
Ready to celebrate
The dancing ran through the whole reception. Maurizio’s parents enjoyed being on the dance floor together too. Among the guests were laughter, heart-shaped sunglasses and people joining in with the music. Coloured smoke accompanied the cake cutting. Jessica and I followed it through photographs, film and aerial footage: Nikla and Maurizio in front of their cake, colour all around, and the celebration continuing.
07
The story did not end that day
On their wedding day, Nikla had asked Jessica whether they would keep in touch afterwards. In a way, the answer came on 21 June 2026. That day, Jessica and I were the ones getting married. And Nikla and Maurizio were among our guests. We did not take this photograph for work. It is not part of their wedding photography. It is simply a memory of our own wedding, shared with two people who had become our friends along the way. And perhaps that is the loveliest way I know to end their story.
