A WEDDING STORY

Laura & Davide — From tears to laughter

Daniela, Laura’s wedding witness, was the person who introduced us. I had met her the previous August, and she recommended me as their photographer. A month after Laura and Davide’s wedding, I would photograph her own. Jessica and I shared a day that began with deeply moving moments and grew increasingly lively at the reception. There was also a coloured-smoke surprise that neither of us had been told about. And there was Daniela, playfully taking Laura’s glass away, then bringing everyone to tears with her speech.

Getting ready

Jessica and I photographed Laura and Davide getting ready, still apart before meeting at the ceremony. A little later, Davide would arrive carrying a balloon in remembrance of someone dear to him.

A balloon for someone dearly missed

Davide arrived with a balloon in memory of a loved one who had passed away. After releasing it, he cried in the arms of his wedding witness, holding a handkerchief. It was one of the most moving moments of the day. Then Laura arrived. Her reading and their exchange of rings followed as the ceremony continued.

An unexpected burst of colour

The coloured smoke came before the reception. Neither of us had been told about it, so Jessica and I had to organise ourselves there and then. We covered different perspectives. I moved between photographs, ground-level filming and video with the drone, while Jessica photographed and filmed from another angle, with a fixed camera providing an additional view. We had the equipment with us; working together helped us adapt to the surprise.

At the reception, Daniela kept playfully taking Laura’s glass away because she did not want her to get drunk. It is one of the moments that comes back to me when I think of the laughter that day. Later, the same Daniela picked up the microphone and gave a speech that brought everyone to tears. In the space of a few hours, she had taken us from joking to feeling deeply moved.

Helping beyond the photographs

During the wedding, we also helped with a few organisational difficulties. Jessica is a wedding planner too, and when help was needed, we stepped in together. Afterwards, Laura sent me these messages. By “everything else”, she meant that help beyond the photographs and films.
